Gabbinbar State School
Gabbinbar Environmental Enthusiasts
We are creating a special garden for outdoor learning and quiet time.
We are going to look closely at the rubbish at Gabbinbar State School and develop an action plan for improving what we do. We have written to the principal and the manufacturers of poppers (as they the biggest cause of the waste found at Gabbinbar SS). We will continue to do updates on parade for a whole school action.
We have planted an indigenous garden, so we know more about how these plants were used by indigenous peoples of this area, and we are maintaining these plants. We are also encouraging native wildlife into our school. We compost fruit and vegetable waste for use in our school garden. We put out green bins each week and then empty them into the compost bin. We also continue to plant, maintain and harvest our vegetable garden and supply our tuckshop with fresh produce each week.
Eating locally grown food or food from our garden is good for us and the environment. It’s fresh, ripe and doesn’t need to travel.
