Our Story So Far…

To promote sustainable energy practices by wrapping ourselves up in layers and minimizing the use of electrical devices such as heaters and computers.

Our project was undertaken as a whole-school. It was decided that our Enviroweek initiative would be in line with the whole-school approach to everything we do. Each year group (i.e.: 1-6) chose a mascot and integrated learning experiences into their curriculum for the week that would align with the theme of their chosen mascot. The mascots are also related to things that we already do in our school, some of which can be seen below. Year 1: Wild Child (Getting out into nature & Chook Champs.) Year 2: Green Thumb (Exploring the 3 school garden centers & planting/picking produce.) Year 3: Sparky (Minimizing electricity & printing.) Year 4: Waste Warrior (Exploring the recycling program in the school & Worm Warriors.) Year 5: Foodie (Nude lunches & Monday Markets.) Year 6: Trader (Monday Markets & mentoring younger students about trade.) There was the school mascot as well, named Lucky, who was placed in a different location around the school each day for the classes to find at recess and lunch. Students were tasked with proving they had been to the location by either reading and remembering what the laminated card said or taking a picture and sending it to the Enviroweek Coordinator. This event was very effective in getting students involved outside of the classroom, while the in-class mascots and learning experiences assisted in engaging students in the classroom.
