OUR ACTION

This year our whole school participated in a ‘Walk for Water Relay’ and raised money for those who do not have access to clean fresh water. We now realise how lucky we are! We have also been recognised as being a WaterWise school for 20 years....what a great achievement. Every year level across our school has taken responsibility for looking after different aspects of our sustainability program. Year 2 have been busy being WaterWise and recycling our coffee pods and oral care products while the Year 3 classes have been recycling batteries and mobile phones. Every lunch time our Year 4 Litter Buster students are out there handing out buckets and tongs to our enthusiastic litter collectors and putting our organic waste into our composting. Year 5 students are collecting organic waste for our wiggly worms and are looking after our new worm fridge. At lunch time our Year 6 students can be seen spying around the school as Energisers checking to see if our rooms are switched off. Each week these students collect our paper recycling boxes from classrooms and also look after our recycling cans and ringpulls. We have also celebrated Clean Up Day, Earth Hour, Keep Australia Beautiful and World Water Day.

OUR ACTION

Our veggie garden is being loved by our Year 5 students and provides fresh produce for our canteen. Year 4 are looking at ways to improve our bush tucker garden with more plants and signage and would like to have a nature playground in this area. We have celebrated Schools Tree Day this year by planting natives in all our garden beds around the school to attract more birds, butterflies, bees and bugs into our gardens.

OUR ACTION

We celebrated Earth Hour this year by switching off in our classrooms and making a whole school mural of photos of the places we love in nature. Our Year 6 Energisers can be seen spying around the school at lunchtime making sure that we are switching off when we are not in our classrooms. Each fortnight they award our Energiser Bunny to the class that has been Energy Wise at our assembly.

OUR ACTION

Our Year 1 students have been frolicking about the frog pond and making it look amazing. We have welcomed scientists in to tell us all about acoustics in our oceans and had a sea themed dress up to raise money for dolphin research in SeaWeek. We have had a Mallard Duck find a nesting place in our school to lay her twelve eggs and we have been able to watch her while we eagerly await their hatching. This has been a great learning experience for all of our students as they lovingly keep her area quiet while they take a little peek in the garden.

OUR IMPACT

Spending an hour outside and switching off the classroom saves 230 CO2e-kgs a year from being released into the atmosphere.
