Our Story So Far…

We will be holding a Waste Free Wednesday, begin to recycle and make our own compost for our beautiful vegetable gardens.

Enviroweek at Valentine: We will be holding a Waste Free Wednesday. We are trying to reduce our waste production and help out our local Awaba Landfill by minimising the amount of waste produced by our school lunches. We will try to bring food in reusable containers rather than plastic wrap and use our reusable canteen bags rather than rubbish. We are holding a whole school book swap event where each student brings in books they would otherwise throw away and these will be swapped between children and/or added to our classroom libraries. We will be teaming up with our local council who will be helping our Green Gang get set up and effectively recycle rubbish in our new recycling skip. They will spread the word by creating posters and photographs and making presentations to other students at Valentine Public School. Ongoing Sustainability projects: Over recent years, with help from dedicated teachers, generous parents and community members Valentine Public School has designed and built an outdoor learning garden area (Olga) with vegetable gardens upcycled from unused police boats. Students learn how to plant, take care of, and harvest vegetables. Last week Year 2 harvested and held a vegetable/fruit market at school selling spinach, bok choy, carrots (all shapes and sizes), pumpkins, silverbeet, spring onions, mandarins, lemons, parsley and thyme. We are currently learning about rotational gardening and companion planting for our next crop.
