Our Story So Far…

Our Lady of the River School students are committed to saving our planet. Various activities will be planned for Schools Enviroweek.

Foodie We will have a nude food luch of the day competition. Winner receives a certificate and a reusable container to encourage less packaging in lunchboxes. Waste Warrior We have a poster of Wheeliam, our Wheelie bin with a red lid. All waste that should go into the red bin is displayed on Wheeliam so that parents get a visual of the waste we are contributing to landfill. A notice goes home at the end of the week with total pieces of landfill waste collected and the most popular items of landfill waste collected. Suggestions are made on how this waste can be minimised. Green Continue to care for our garden. Foundation students will plant and germinate some pumpkin seeds and monitior their growth. Eventually adding them to our veggie garden. We are developing a sustainable garden at the front of our school using sustainable plants. Wild Child Being in the garden, enjoying the great outdoors and going on a critter hunt to see what we can find. Explore - are they healthy critters for our garden or not. Our Youth Environment Leaders are working on a video to share at assembly next week on the benefits of connecting with nature. They will also attend a forum on connecting with nature and then share their learning with the rest of the school. Whole school will begin working on dances to include in our Sustainability concert which aims to raise sustainability awareness in the wider community.
