OUR ACTION

At our school we have wrapper-free Day every Wednesday. The students did a wrapper audit where we collated, counted, sorted, graphed and weighed all the wrappers each class had in one week. We were shocked at the results. Now our aim is to dramatically reduce the amount of wrappers that we bring to our school. We have made laminated cards to put into our lunch boxes to remind our families about wrapper-free days. The cards also have tips on how to reduce the amount of wrappers that we purchase.

OUR ACTION

We are creating a Water Saving Herb Garden. We will be using old tyres to build a garden near the drink taps. Instead of the excess water from drink taps running down the drain, a pipe will allow it to travel over our herb garden to water the plants. We have old tyres, donated herb plants, donated paint pots and soil. We will have parent helpers cutting concrete, cutting tyres and helping to put the garden together. The Green Team will paint the tyres and plant the herbs.

OUR ACTION

WE have asked all teachers and students to turn off all lights when leaving a room.

OUR ACTION

We are currently working on our Indigenous corridor of tress, plants and shrubs. So far we have planted over 100 trees around our school oval. We have maintained the trees by mulching and watering around each tree. The indigenous corridor will provide a safe path for native animals to travel along and it will filter the storm water run-off from our oval and prevent rubbish from getting into the creek. The area will also be a great place for children to play and explore nature.

OUR IMPACT

A packaged lunch box contains three pieces of waste. In a year that fills a 240-litre wheelie bin. We make a lot of waste!
