Our Story So Far…

We are planting over 200 plants. There are natives for the local wildlife as well as fruit trees, vegetables and herbs for our cooking program.

At Quinns Rocks Primary School we have already planted more than 200 plants. We are continuing to plant shrubs and trees that are native to our local area. These will provide homes and food for native birds and other creatures. In science lessons we go outside and look closely at the small animals that have made their homes in the leaf litter. Every class at Quinns Rocks Primary school has a garden plot to grow vegetables. We grow peas, beans, spinach, cauliflower, red cabbage, purple and orange carrots, capsicum, pak choy and potatoes. The classes spend time every week planting, weeding, pruning and watering. Sometimes we get to use our school-grown vegetables in our cooking program. We make our dishes delicious with the herbs that the senior students are growing. We can choose from oregano, Italian parsley, coriander, thyme, sage, rosemary, chives and basil. The senior students plan to sell some of the herbs to our local community and use the money we raise to buy more supplies for our gardens. We are also planting fruit trees. When the trees start to bear fruit we can add them to our cooking program too.
