Our Story So Far…

We are going to investigate how much waste our school generates in one week and look at ways we can reduce this.

This week our waste busters team have come up with heaps of different ideas for reducing the amount of waste we produce at school and at home. So far, one group of students are preparing a powerpoint presentation to take to the other classes in the school about reducing the amount of paper they use and about reducing the use of plastic bags at home. Another group of students are planning to get some parents in to help them make hessian shopping bags which they plan to sell and then use the money for our garden. The hessian shopping bags encourage people to not use plastic bags and are a great way to make money. These students have been ringing various coffee shops to see if they have hessian coffee sacks to donate and so far, have found one shop who are planning to give us all their hessian sacks. Another group of students have been writing a letter to the local shire council to see if they could help our town (Beechworth) to have no plastic bags in shops. All these ideas have come directly from the students who have been so enthusiastic about enviroweek!
