Perth Modern School
Sustainability I Form
We are revegetaing a strip of land and enhancing its use as a wildlife corridor.
Collecting food scraps from the canteen and the Home Economics department to feed the worms in our 2 worm farms and build up our school compost bins.
This year we have cleared a section of land adjoining the railway embankment and planted a range of natives from groundcovers through to tree saplings. We are now in the process of weeding the area again after the winter rains and we will mulch the area next week. We are working in conjunction with Subiaco Council and hope to gradually progress along the railway embankment to enhance its use as a wildlife corridor.
We have worked outside of the classroom looking at coastal erosion and rehabilitation with Rio Tinto and the Conservation Volunteers, then spent a day planting in the coastal dunes. We will be working with native wildlife in a Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre next term, helping with their enclosures, feeding and care.
