St Mary’s Waste busters
We will have waste free lunches and reduce our waste to landfill.
For Enviroweek our Community Committee decided to conduct a Waste Audit to measure the amount of rubbish we use in one day. We counted 249 pieces of rubbish (not including fruit and Veg waste) from recess and lunches - that adds up to a whopping 46 314 pieces of rubbish generated for a year!!! We have decided to reintroduce Nude Food Days once a week to reduce our school waste.
On Wednesday the Community Committee planted our seedlings for the school vegetable gardens. We have planted tomatoes, snow peas, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, spring onions and basil. We had asked Alison in our Canteen what vegetables she would like us to grow so hopefully we will be able to provide some yummy vegetables for our lunches!
A packaged lunch box contains three pieces of waste. In a year that fills a 240-litre wheelie bin. We make a lot of waste!
