St Augustine’s Primary School
St Augustine’s Enviro Warriors
We are working to inform our peers on the correct ways to dispose of our rubbish, reducing cross contamination in our bins and our impact on landfill.
During term 2, we monitored our red, yellow and green bins and were astonished by the number of times we found plastic wrap in the green bin and plastic in the yellow bin that could not be recycled. Together we decided to inform our fellow students to do the right thing with their rubbish as well as to ask them to reduce what they throw away, after all we only have one planet. Over the first few weeks of term 3, we have been busy making video messages showing what is wrong with our bins and offering advice on how to correct the problems. We share these with our community on our digital notice board and have already noticed changes in the way the bins are being used within our school.
By informing our fellow students of the problems with our red, yellow and green bin we have made them more aware that it is everyone's responsibility to help our environment. By providing clear instructions on what rubbish goes where we have noticed increased discussion at lunch time on where students put their rubbish as well as less contamination of our green and yellow bins, meaning they won't be going to landfill but can be properly recycled therefore helping the environment.
