Oatlands District High School
We will be growing and eating our own food.
Oatlands DHS have recently begun a timetabled Kitchen Garden Program school-wide (for students in Years K-10), where each class has 50 minutes per week in the garden or kitchen. Our aim is to produce all of the ingredients we are using in the kitchen in the garden and eventually use this food to sell in the canteen. For Enviroweek Oatlands DHS will be putting on a Garden Working Bee where we will invite community members and parents to the garden for the day to help us get set up for planting (weeding, sowing, planting, building etc). We will have on class at the garden at a time, with each class in the school having an opportunity to take part in the day. We will put on a free sausage sizzle for the workers at lunch time. This will not only build the connection between the school and the community but also show students the importance of a school garden and its impact on the community and the environment.
