Miranda Public School – Eco-Warriors
The whole school is getting involved in a range of Enviroweek actions.
Miranda Public School's Eco-Warrior's love collecting recycling each Friday and promoting the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Miranda Public School's Eco-Warriors have been growing a range of vegetables and herbs. They water and care for these each day. They have improved the aesthetic look of the school with flowering plants that will also help the vegetable gardens by attracting beneficial insects. The Eco-Warriors are also respoinsible for composting and caring for their worm farm. They have also begun planning the implementation of a new Indigenous garden and chicken coop.
We are working towards having 'Energy Monitors' in every classroom. Student's will have the opportunity to demonstrate sustainability leadership skills in their classrooms by becoming 'Energy Monitors' who are responsible for turning on/off classroom technology and lights when not in use.
K-6 classes have participated in outdoor learning activities that aligned with important dates/weeks on the Cool Australia's calendar such as; Schools Clean Up Day, Nature Play Week, Earth Day, Composting Week, NAIDOC Week, Schools Tree Day and Science Week. Cool Australia's 'Wild Child' character has inspired my class to read outside, while connecting with nature student's are more engaged in reading while enjoying the fresh air and sunlight.
Eating locally grown food or food from our garden is good for us and the environment. It’s fresh, ripe and doesn’t need to travel.
