Little Shining Stars Childcare Centre
Little Shining Stars
We will be growing and eating our own food.
We are recycling as much as possible - reusing as well as reducing our use of paper, cardboard and other materials. All soft plastics are recycled through Coles Redcycle partnership. We are encouraging families to bring unwanted materials to the centre for us to use or recycle within the community.
We are building on from last year with more garden beds for native Grey Box Woodland plants, fruit trees and rejuvenated the beds for our vegetable gardens. We are developing a kitchen garden using wicking beds. We have planted a tyre garden in our Birth-2 playspace and 2 bush food garden planters with a selection of plants that we hope to harvest as they get bigger. We plan to renovate our 3-5 playspace with bush food plantings and more fruit trees.
We are remembering to turn lights off if they are not needed and making sure our heating/cooling temperature is 22 degrees for winter and 25 degrees for summer
We reduced our waste by 25% last year by being mindful of what we can recycle and compost. By recycling our soft plastics we have cut our landfill waste by a further 25%. We have reduced our bin capacity from 1040L in 2014 to less than 700L per week in 2017.
WE ARE CELEBRATING ENVIROWEEK
