Kilkenny Child Parent Centre
Kilkenny Preschool Wild Children
Our outdoor environment is being transformed to create a wonderful area to allow the children to be involved with nature. We will incorporate loose parts, an edible garden, mud kitchen, creek, stumps and a new sand area to entice, excite and encourage children to be engaged outside and be a Wild Child. The children will make a movie about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We will continue to encourage families to send Nude food and developing an awareness of being sustainable and caring for the environment.
We will conduct an audit of the children's snack and lunch boxes over a week. We will save all paper, cardboard, foil, plastic and containers and create a display for the children and families. We will provide families with ideas and strategies to encourage Nude Food.
We will be planting vegetables, caring for our garden, harvesting and cooking with our produce.
We will attempt to turn off the lights when we are not in the room and only use natural light whenever possible.
One of our mottos is "There is no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing". We rug up, wear boots, hats and gloves and enjoy fresh air everyday. The children check the UV every day and wear a hat if the UV is 3 or above. We are creating an new sand area out in the open, shaded by trees rather than under a verandah close to the main building. The sand area will be near our creek bed and accessible by all via a disability ramp. We are creating a sense of place and a stick fence will guide and invite children to enter the vegetable area and sand area. A relaxation swinging seat under our large tree will allow children to relax, sit, lay, look at the trees, leaves and sky.
