OUR ACTION

We have started a our worm garden that we add food scraps into. The children investigate the worms wanting to check if they have ate the scraps and a pair of denim shorts we have added. We check if there is any worm juice we can add to our vegetable garden! We have a four bin system in our pre-school room. The children identify what they have and put it in the red, blue, green or yellow bin! We recycle cardboard boxes, milk bottles, lids and more that we use during craft activities or experiences. We have had a no toys day that we use things that we can recycle. The children create and imagine while using these recycled items and we plan to have more of these days.

OUR ACTION

We are currently growing yummy vegetables in our garden with the children choosing what they would like to plant, with help from Maree our experienced gardener! When they notice the veggies starting to sprout word quickly spreads through the yard to have a look! We pass our vegetables to our cooks, Sofia and Bec, to include in our lunch. We encourage children to bring in left over fruit and vegetables from home that we also give to our kitchen staff. The children talk about their healthy food and are willing to try the new foods their friends bring in! We have buckets that collect rain water that we use to water the plants and vegetables with. The children are always curious to see how much water there is in there!

OUR ACTION

We have signs on each light switch to remind staff to turn off unneeded lights. We turn off electrical items like computers and chargers at the end of each day.

OUR ACTION

Our service is amongst trees that are often home to magpies and other birds. We have a lizard that lives under our cubby house that the children like to sit and watch. With our surroundings we often have bugs that the children look and investigate with. With our worm garden the children discover their senses by holding a worm and watching it move on their hands. Our outdoor deck is often used for language and literacy group times, outdoor discos or activities that the children participate in under the trees. We have a sensory garden that the children can explore natural items of rocks that they lift and explore.
