Wilkins Public School
On the Goanna Trail program students gain 1 hour/week in the Wilkins Green with a clear focus on ecology and sustainability. We meet in the yarning circle to discuss our action for the week - we cover a range of topics from climate change, to rainwater collection, to propagation techniques, learning how to care for country and remnant bushland ecological communities. We continue our class Biodiversity Patch Renewal work, where we have helped create habitat, by caring for existing trees and learning which weeds threaten their survival. We mulch the soil to care for the roots of the trees and protect the dirt. As a group we are little but we must do something so the native animals, including the endangered Long Nose Bandicoot, may find a safe place to live. On Sunday 17th September, the Wilkins Green will participate in the Bushcare Major Day Out - where all stage 3 parents are invited to attend and celebrate our hard work with all bush care enthusiasts.
In a single year, a tree can absorb 8.9 kg of CO2e. Plant tress and help them thrive!
