Westall Primary School
Grade 3/4 B
Our Story So Far…
We have organised a Swap Shop where kids get in pre-loved items and swap them for something else from the shop that they like.
The rest of the school is involved in an Inquiry unit titled Ecological Sustainability which tis in with Enviroweek activities. During the term we have been involved in growing a sustainable garden with the Foundation to year 2 students along withh some sponsorship from Bunnings. The grade 5/6's have started a project to beautify the school gardens by getting involved with weeding and pruning as well as joining in the Masters sponsored Rubbish bin project/competition. They also run a Nude-food day every Wednesday. The Grade 3/4's are involved in various activities such as 'Keep your class green' where the students are encouraged to recycle materials such as paper, plastic and glass and put them to good use in their everyday activities. They now use both sides of the print outs and scrap paper from the photocopiers, bring lunches in reusable plastic and glass containers and separate the recycleable material from the wet waste in the class bins. The students also have door and light duties which involve shutting the doors to trap heat on a cold day and shutting off the lights to save electricity whenever possible. They are encouraged to stay warm by wearing their jumpers inside the class when the heating is turned off. Students are also encouraged to eat more fruit and are rewarded with stickers for each day when they do eat a fruit. At the end of the week the student with the most stickers gets something out of the Swap Shop.
