Our Story So Far…

Our school has an amazing food garden and we will be harvesting and selling produce to the community to create funds for more green projects

Our sustainability centre (Called "Chook Camp") includes a huge orchard where our chooks wander all day, vegie gardens and herb gardens. Every week the students from our small rural school attend garden science lessons where they plants and grow a large diversity of food plants, including bushtucker. Regularly we harvest our crops and cook up a feast to share. If we have excess produce we run market stalls and invite the community to visit us. This is run in parallel with lessons on organic gardening and food miles. The students learn that not only do they get to eat organic healthy food, but they have a positive effect on the environment by minimising food miles (transporting food using fuel etc). Their ecological footprint gets smaller! They also learn about making healthy choices when it comes to food. For example at harvest time we get buckets of apricots. This sweet treat is so much nicer than many unhealthy snacks.
