OUR ACTION

This was shared with the school community by being printed in our newsletter and spoken about by the Environmental Tacklers at our whole school assembly..... Mill Park Heights Primary School is participating in Enviroweek. It's a chance for us to celebrate everything about our environment and each day there will be a different focus. Wednesday the 14th of September will be Litter Blitz day. We want all grades to do at least 10 minutes litter patrol out in our yard at some stage during the day. On Thursday the 15th of September we want everyone to try to have a Wrapper Free Lunch. We want everyone to always have a wrapper free lunch. If you usually do bring wrappers to school then maybe Thursday can be the day when you see how easy it is to be wrapper free. On Friday the 16th of September we want you to reuse and recycle. If you’re making a poster or a sign for the footy day parade, use scrap paper today instead of getting a new sheet of paper. Try to have a paper free class for the day.

OUR ACTION

The Environmental Tacklers, ( Student Action Team) and one Foundation class planted vegetables such as broccoli, broad beans, snowpeas, sugar snap peas, garlic and carrots in the veggie patch in Term 2. During Enviroweek they picked and ate the snow peas straight from the vine and the Foundation class picked, cooked and ate the broccoli with some pasta. The Tacklers also dug up and replanted the Parsley in small pots in the hope of selling them to the school community so that they can make some money to buy more seedlings for the veggie patch.

Tuesday the 13th of September will be conserve Energy Day. We want you to turn off lights when they're not needed, turn the heater off and put on a jumper, use natural lighting, turn off any dripping taps and only use the half flush on the toilet.

We will start the week with Green Day on Monday. We want everyone to wear Green or Earthy coloured clothing including hair ribbons, streamers or hair clips. We want you to experience the outdoors. Ask your teacher on Monday if you can go outside for a game, have a maths lesson outside, do a shape hunt, do some sketching of the school’s trees, collect leaves to make crayon rubbings, do a mapping activity outside or check out what animals use the trees as their home.
