East Sale Kindergarten
We will be growing and eating our own food.
We'll continue to recycle our rubbish - ie. paper scraps into our paper recycling bin, plastic yoghurt containers for construction & food scraps for either our worm farm or compost bin. We'll get more old car tyres to recycle & use as decorative planters & garden dividers within our outdoor environment, with the particular focus of creating a dirt / mud digging patch.
We have had our local council sustainability officer visiting each term - she has spoken about rubbish & recycling, worm farming, gardening & cooking so far. We look forward to welcoming her back again! We've also welcomed our local Bunnings store to our centre with generous donations of plants for our garden. We look forward to having them return to get our Spring plantings underway. We have been incorporating regular cooking / food preparation activities into our program - using kinder / family / locally grown produce ie: soups, cakes, salads, biscuits, etc.
We've supported the Australian Defence Force's 'Earth Hour' at a local level whereby we turned off our lights when we ventured outside - the children even decided that we didn't need to have them on whilst we had lunch because it was a nice sunny day! Lights & air conditioners / heaters are often turned off when we venture outside or when we go on excursions.
Eating locally grown food or food from our garden is good for us and the environment. It’s fresh, ripe and doesn’t need to travel.
