Our Story So Far…

Stay tuned ... we're working on it

We sort & separate all our waste into red bins for landfill, blue for paper & cardboard, yellow for kerbside recycling and green for composting. We have an Aerobin, which is amazing at cooking up our fruit scraps, also four 240 wheelie bin worm farms, 3 compost bins and four garden clippings compost bays. Recently, we've partnered with our local Landcare group & fauna park to help create habitat for Squirrel Gliders, which are believed to be in the area. Our year 8 students planted 400 trees and understorey shrubs to provide year round food near big old Grey Box trees with hollows. We hope to educate the local neighbourhood about keeping their cats inside to help protect these precious nocturnal animals. They are so adorable, we hope they'll be able to thrive in the reserve with the remnant trees protected and lots of indigenous understorey. We've also re-written the Melb Metro's Dumb Ways to Die safety song to be an Enviro Week anthem, Smart Ways to Live! Students are currently rehearsing for a recording that we'll then make a video clip of students demonstrating smart ways to live. (Email nfreeman@sakyabram.catholic.edu.au & we'd be happy to share our lyrics, most kids know the tune)
