Abbotsford Public School
We will have waste free lunches and reduce our waste to landfill.
At the beginning of the week a lunchbox audit will take place of students’ lunch boxes. In classes, students will be asked to identify the contents of their lunches as either recyclable, reusable, compostable or waste. The discussion is aimed at making students aware of what is in their lunch boxes and what smart choices they can start making. This is in preparation for Wednesday which is Waste free Wednesday. All students will participate in the Waste Free Wednesday trial. This is in preparation for next term when we start Waste Free Wednesday every week.
The Earthlings will prepare two vertical gardens which will add to our growing school garden.
Switch Off – We will make sure that all electricity is turned off when not in use. We will use natural light instead of turning on the lights and will wear a jumper in class so we don’t need to use heaters.
Nature Classroom – During the week teachers are encouraged to teach a class outside. Whether it be teaching mathematical concepts in a practical way in the playground or allowing students to sit in the sun whilst having Crunch and Sip. Environment inspired Artworks - During the week teachers are encouraged to design an artwork around environmental issues. Whether it be reusing materials in the creation of the artwork or creating an piece with a powerful environmental message.
Australian households waste $1,226 a year on things they buy but never use.
