Flinders Christian Community College

All the Primary grades participated in a wrapper free day to celebrate Enviroweek and to educate ourselves in just how much rubbish we use every day. All the grades were challenged to bring their snack and lunch in recyclable or reusable containers.

The competition was fierce with the Preps just winning with only one piece of glad wrap for the day. The most was five pieces for the grade. Congratulations to all the students for an outstanding effort and to all our wonderful parents as well. We, and the environment, appreciate your effort. I wonder if we could continue the good work?

A number of interesting observations came out of the exercise such as buying a large pack of chips meant only one large wrapper compared to one large and many small packets with the multi-packs.

Also the portion sizes in lunch boxes were smaller and not one child complained!

‘Food for thought’ next time we shop. Good for the environment and good for us.

We have also been discovering the many ways we can look after our environment. Grade 3/4 toured the Traralgon Landfill site (tip), Morwell transfer station and the DASMA recycling centre last week.

Gr 1/2 made trees filled with many ways to reuse, renew, recycle, refuse and reduce our rubbish use.

What a great future for our planet!
