Cool Australia explains in plain English how our environment supports our way of life. We examine why it’s under threat and what we can all do to help.
We have up to the minute information on green energy and green events
About Enviroweek
Enviroweek is an annual, week-long celebration of our environment that highlights the challenges we are all facing to preserve it. In the lead up to Enviroweek teachers who would like their class to participate sign up to take on a challenge. This is a challenge that is good for our environment and is actually challenging (which is why it’s called a “challenge” as opposed to an Enviroweek “doddle”).
During Enviroweek these normally modest Clark Kent environmentalists become Green Heroes, a source of inspiration for us all and a beacon of hope for our environment.
To become a Green Hero you register to take on a challenge, get sponsored by your friends and family and fundraise for your school’s next green project. It’s that simple.
Enviroweek began in 2009 with around 200 people taking on an environmental challenge. In 2010 our Green Heroes were sponsored by around 1000 of their mates raising more than $58,000 for environmental organisations around Australia.
In 2012, August 20 – 24 will be all about taking on a challenge that suits you, changing your behaviour during Enviroweek and getting into good habits for the rest of the year.
Enviroweek is proudly operated by Cool Australia who are educating young Australians for a sustainable future.
About Cool Australia
If you’re concerned about pollution, climate change or habitat loss and want to know what you can do to help our environment – we’ll show you. Saving water, reducing waste, going solar and (this is the good bit) saving money in the process.
You don’t need to be a greenie to be green. It just makes good sense to take care of our life support system – our environment. At Cool Australia we don’t tell you what you can’t do – we concentrate on what you can do.
It’s not about sacrifice – it’s about living smarter. Who wants to breathe foul air, swim in polluted water and live on a poisoned planet?
Sister sites – Cool Sydney, Cool Brisbane and Cool Melbourne host the top rated educational resource: Our Cool School for students and teachers. It is free, curriculum based, rich in classroom projects and activities that can be downloaded and taken straight to the classroom.
Each year Cool Australia speaks directly to more than 9,000 school kids about what they can do at home and at school to turn things around.
